Sakai’s 6th Grader LOI

Leaving Our Island (LOI) is a unique experience for Sakai’s 6th Grade students. In the weeks leading up to the Leaving Our Island event, 6th graders will read, discuss, and learn about the experiences of Japanese Americans during WWII.

On LOI Day, 6th graders have the opportunity to hear from the people, or their surviving families, who experienced the events surrounding WW II and the internment of Japanese citizens then living on Bainbridge Island.
